Remediation NORM
Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material (NORM) remediation is the safe removal of naturally occurring radioactive substances that have become concentrated due to industrial activities. NORM occurs naturally in soil, rock, and groundwater, but can be present in elevated concentrations during processes such as oil and gas extraction, mining, or water treatment. As a result, risks can arise for humans and the environment if these materials are not treated properly.
Professional removal
Reducing harmful effects on people and the environment
Legal obligation

Due to the elevated concentrations of naturally occurring radioactive substances (components of the uranium and thorium decay series) present within the NORM, the NORM must be classified as subject to registration or licensing under the Nuclear Energy Act.
The goal of NORM remediation is to make sites safe for use again and to ensure that radiation levels remain within legal standards. A careful approach, with attention to safety, monitoring, and regulations, is essential in this regard.

How we work

INVENTORIZE
To determine with certainty whether NORM is present, an inventory must be carried out by a specialized company. The inventory consists of performing survey radiation measurements, in which an increased radiation intensity indicates the presence of NORM. By taking samples and analyzing them, it can be determined whether or not the activity concentrations exceed the exemption limit. The results of the investigation are recorded in an inventory report.
REMOVAL PROCESS
To minimize these health risks, it is necessary to remediate NORM in a controlled and safe manner. Professional NORM remediation includes strict safety measures to prevent the hazardous substance from spreading during the removal process. This may include the use of protective clothing, extraction systems, and other safety equipment.
Just as with asbestos removal, specific regulations exist for NORM remediation to ensure that these procedures are carried out safely and exposure to this harmful substance is kept to a minimum.
Before the start of NORM remediation, a NORM Remediation Plan is drawn up, in which the work activities, including all precautionary measures to be taken, are recorded.
